Definition of partnership

Definition of partnershipPartnership means a formal agreement between two or more parties that have agreed to work together in the pursuit of common goals.

Cooperation between citizens, community and institutional resources, and the SPVM goes a long way toward maintaining public security. The SPVM recognizes the importance of its partnership with the public in finding lasting solutions to problems, and for this reason it seeks to establish partnerships with local communities.

Conditions for success

  • Create a bond of trust and demonstrate openness
  • Work as a team, for consensus and consultation
  • Respect the organizational mission of each partner
  • Respect the expectations and limits of each partner
  • Share power, risks and responsibilities
  • Invest jointly in resources
  • Encourage commitment and permanency from the stakeholders

Methods used

  • Establishment of cooperation protocols
  • Creation of round tables
  • Joint lectures or training offered by police and community and institutional partners
  • Creation of Surveillance committees

The partnership between the SPVM and the local community works as a means of consultation, to identify the concerns of each group and set priorities. Finally, after taking action, the SPVM reports to the community about the progress it has made.
