Fraud

Fraud is when a person or business voluntarily gives up their assets as a result of:

  • sharp practice
  • lies
  • misrepresentation
  • or any other fraudulent means

Unlike victims of robbery, fraud victims consent and are, in fact, convinced it is in their best interest to give their assets to the defrauder, who may be acting alone or within an organized network.

This subsection explores the most common types of fraud and provides advice on how to avoid falling victim to fraud.
