Cadets

Minh Vo, cadetThe first cohort of cadets joined the Service de police de la Communauté urbaine de Montréal in May 1993. Today there are 317 cadets (113 women and 204 men), aged 18 to 23.

29 of the cadets who apply at police stations are hired by the SPVM in 2010.

The cadets policiers program was established in 1992. Its goal is to allow students who are considering a police career to acquire relevant work experience in the field, and to determine whether the student is suited to police work.

The SPVM offers 45 hours of training and provides the uniforms and equipment required for the job.

Cadets policiers are always surrounded and supported by police staff. In turn, they support police operations, reporting to the commandant of the PDQ. Cadets have a variety of responsibilities:

  • carry out preventive bicycle patrols
  • control peaceful crowds
  • provide SPVM presence, control access, provide information to citizens
  • participate in crime prevention campaigns
  • redirect traffic
  • issue parking tickets
  • work with the Info-Crime program by writing various documents
  • act as rédacteur de plaintes at the Section des fraudes
