WORK FORCE
The organization includes nearly 4,600 police officers and over 1,600 civilian employees. Women make up 30% of the work force.
189 of the police officers are from ethnic minorities and some 284 belong to visible minorities.
OVERALL STRUCTURE
The structure of the organization is grounded in support for operational units, independence, commitment and responsibility for service quality and customer satisfaction.
The Postes de quartier (PDQs) are the first responders for public security, providing the basic services for the local populations they serve.
There are 33 PDQs serving citizens across the territory of Montréal.
For the addresses and contact information of the neighbourhood stations, please consult the PDQ directory.
Each neighbourhood station operates under the auspices of one of four Service à la communauté – Nord, Sud, Est, Ouest. These four management teams are fully responsible and independent, and therefore better able to monitor and follow up on events in their region.
Each regional management team is headquartered in an operational centre along with the investigation, detention, intervention, analysis and prevention units that serve the PDQs in that region.
For the addresses and contact information of the Service à la communauté, please check the PDQ directory.
The SPVM has three executive branches - operations, administration and strategic.
The Direction des opérations oversees all operational units. It includes all front-line units (postes de quartier) and support units (centres d'enquêtes and enquêtes spécialisées) that are involved in delivering services to the public. The mandate of this operational branch is to offer basic and specialized services to the public. It is backed up by two support branches.
The Direction de l'administration helps optimize human resources and financial, material and computer management. In this sense, it offers support and oversight to all units in the SPVM.
The Direction stratégique provides guidance as the SPVM advances toward better practices and innovations. Its main functions are to plan, advise on and oversee issues and practices. It contributes to organizational development and monitors internal cohesion.
The Direction du SPVM ensures that the organization fulfils its mission by continually improving the services offered and by maintaining the components of the police de quartier model.
