The collision technician must reconstruct the scene of litigious accidents, road or maritime collisions having caused serious or fatal injuries and explain the circumstances and the facts, and help identify the vehicles involved.

His duties include:

• Assisting investigators of fatal accidents, or those with serious injuries, or a possible case of criminal negligence;
• Inspecting accident scenes to discover any indicators which can explain, technically, the accident's sequence (impact zone, vehicle trajectory or the guilty individuals, minimal or initial speed of the vehicles);
• collecting and identifying material or physical pieces of evidence (vehicle remains, tire tracks connected to braking or skids, plastic or metal, parts of clothing, organic matter);
• producing scale scenes of collisions and accumulating all useful information in order to explain to the court the sequence, description and causes of the accident;
• making recommendations to the internal or external partners associated with road safety and water way users;
• Acting as evidentiary experts at the SPVM Training Section concerning this field of expertise.
